In June, Ballpark Digest named Frawley Stadium, home of the Wilmington Blue Rocks, the Best Class A Minor League Ballpark. More than 70,000 fans voted. But when it comes down to it, how did Frawley Stadium earn this award? It’s simple, says Blue Rocks majority owner Dave Heller. The Blue Rocks have the best people in the League.
“Wilmington is a special place and Frawley is a special ballpark,” says Heller. “We’re grateful to our fans across Delaware and the region who have honored Frawley Stadium as a top ballpark and entertainment venue. This award is great recognition from the most widely respected publication in our industry. We look forward to celebrating with our fans at our ballpark.”
With all of the mascots and fun promotions at the Blue Rocks, it’s no wonder Delaware banded together to make Frawley Stadium number one, but there is so much that goes into creating the atmosphere that we love so much. We see the ball players, managers, box office and concessions staff, but so much goes on behind the scenes as well. The advertising sales, marketing and creative services, community affairs, field operations, merchandising, broadcasting—all of these departments are part of what makes Frawley Stadium Frawley Stadium.
But it takes more than the ball players and managers to make a great stadium. There are so many careers and fields that are represented at Frawley Stadium. Brian Radle, Director of Advertising Sales, helped SPARC Delaware create videos about the program. He said he originally wanted to become an FBI agent when he studied Criminal Justice at LaSalle University, but ended up working in minor league baseball with the Camden Riversharks before becoming Director of Advertising Sales with the Blue Rocks.
The next time you go see the Blue Rocks, think about all the different careers that go into making a Minor League Ball Club run as smoothly. Congratulations, Blue Rocks! SPARC Delaware is proud to have you on board as career coaches for students and for youth seeking career guidance.
